Yield strength is a fundamental property of steel and other metallic materials that indicates the stress at which the material begins to deform plastically. Continue reading if you want to know more!
What is the yield strength of a material?
Yield strength represents the maximum stress that a material, such as steel, can withstand before undergoing permanent deformation. In more technical terms, it represents the stress at which the steel begins to deform plastically. This marks the transition from elastic behavior, in which deformations are completely reversible, to plastic behavior. In this phase, irreversible deformations develop that persist even after the stress that caused them is removed.
