Tensile strength is a fundamental characteristic of materials and indicates the maximum tensile stress they can withstand before permanent deformation or fracture occurs. It is a widely used parameter for evaluating the strength and behavior of materials in various applications.

When a material is subjected to a tensile force, i.e., pulled in opposite directions, a tendency for deformation occurs. Tensile strength represents the maximum tensile force the material can withstand before permanent deformation or fracture happens.

How is tensile strength measured?

Measured in units of pressure, such as Pascal (Pa) or Megapascal (MPa), tensile strength is a critical indicator of a material’s performance under tensile loads. Materials with high tensile strength are able to withstand higher loads before undergoing plastic deformation or fracture.
